Arts Scene in Lexington Celebrates Cultural Renaissance
Lexington is going through the revival of culture through the continued growth and expansion of arts in the city. One can clearly conclude that the core of this artistic renaissance is in the numerous activities which include events, exhibitions, and performances that are interesting residents and tourists alike.
Street fairs have been a normal feature in different parts of the country as people transform the streets into markets for artists, musicians and food vendors. Not only are these events entertainment but they also help upcoming artists to showcase their talents and perhaps get a chance to interact with their fans.
Many art galleries in the city are experimenting with the creation of new exhibitions which draw a connection between the traditional craftsman like in Kentucky and modern art. The Lexington Art League has been very instrumental in this, coming up with programs that are of a social nature and present the art works that are relevant to the society.
Some of the new projects that they have undertaken are; working with international artists who have come to change the face of the local art market. The performing arts have also come back and the Lexington Opera House as well as the Singletary Center for the Arts have featured all types of performances including broadway plays and other experimental plays.
It is clear that local theater is strong and actively creating new pieces which address topics that are pertinent to the history of Lexington and the current issues. Live music performances are thriving across the city with music fans able to again enjoy bluegrass and country, indie rock, and electronic music.
The appearance of new music festivals gives the continuation of Lexington’s development as the cultural center with people from different districts attending the performances. Street art is more visible than ever with murals and sculptures painted on walls and standing in various structures and parks within the city.
These works not only add aesthetics to the urban setting to make it more appealing but also create discourses on what community is and what issues they face. The dedication that the city has to creativity is well illustrated by its support of arts education for children in school and other youth facilities. These initiatives are fostering the development of the next generation artist and guaranteeing that art continues to be a part of Lexington’s society.
As Lexington grows and accepts its place in arts, the city has developed a new found pride in the arts and culture. This is not entertainment renaissance this is about building and strengthening community ties, kick-starting economic activity and putting Lexington on the map as a cultural tourism hub. The arts are now one of the most important features of the city as it continues to draw new people and companies to live and work in Lexington while making residents’ lives more colorful and fulfilling.
